50 Cent ethers Young Buck

Normally, I don’t give too much attention to teenie bopper like drama in hip hop, but this was too good to pass up. For a long time, rumors circulated about beef between 50 Cent (G-Unit) and Young Buck. Eventually, Young Buck told the world how 50 stiffed him for millions of dollars and in April 50 announced that Buck was no longer in G-Unit. Important news right?

Well, recently, 50 Cent leaked a 16 minute recorded phone conversation between he and Buck. Listen to it here.

Buck did damn near irreparable damage to his career with this phone convo. He admits that HE actually owes 50 Centy money when he had been running around saying the opposite. He apologizes to 50, gets extra emotional, sheds tears, etc. My issue isn’t with Buck’s emotion on the phone, but the fact that he talked to dude on the phone in the first place. And knowing how devious 50 is and how terrible it would be if the phone convo got leaked, why would he let himself get that emotional? Today, skills aren’t as important as “swag.” In the minds of many hip hop fans, Buck’s swag level decreases immensely with the release of this convo. He’s gonna have a hard time coming back from this. Plus, G-Unit is on its way out anyway. No one’s checkin for this clique. Buck didn’t need them. He was probably the most talented artist in that crew. Why run crying to 50? Damn, sux for dude. I hope he can come back from this. He’s a damn good artist.

And man, how heartless is 50 Cent. This dude will do anything to hold on to what he has. He absolutely destroyed Buck, who was already broken. I hate that these kind of actions, and not skills, are what makes rappers successful nowadays.

Peace

The Original Gangster versus The Soulja Boy

So the O.G. Ice-T had some words for teen superstar Soulja Boy… (borrowed from www.hiphopdx.com)

“Fuck Soulja Boy! Eat a dick! This nigga single handedly killed Hip Hop.”

Those are the words of Gangsta Rap veteran, Ice-T, who appears on DJ Cisco’s Urban Legend mixtape with a few choice words about Soulja Boy.

“That shit is such garbage man,” Ice-T continues to snarl. “We came all the way from Rakim, we came all the way from Das EFX, we came all the way from motherfuckers flowing like Big Daddy Kane and Ice Cube, and you come with that Superman shit? That shit is garbage.”

Apparently, Soulja Boy isn’t the only one in Ice-T’s sights. The rapper had a few things to say about another young rapper.

Hurricane (Chris) take them fucking beads out of your hair nigga! Man up. You niggas is making me feel real fucking mad about this shit.”

Aside from the fact that I’m a huuuuge Ice-T fan, I must have to somewhat agree with his statement. I feel artists should have the right to make any kind of music they want. I also feel that dance music, like Soulja Boy’s shit, has a place in the hip hop landscape. I do, however, think that hip hop music is strugglin right now. Its strugglin as a whole. I’m glad that Soulja Boy was successful, but I hate that he was one of the biggest things in rap this past year. Nothing about his music says “quality.” The rap sucks as well as the production. I don’t give a damn if you can dance to it, shits wack. I can’t agree that dude single handedly killed hip hop. Plenty of artists, labels, and fans should be blamed for that. Its just that the fact that he soared to the top of the charts signals that something is really wrong with hip hop.

I don’t know what to say about Hurricane Chris. I thought he was completely wack until that Pushin Buttons song with my boy Trae.

Peace.
