Old School Joint of the Week: Isaac Hayes Hip Hop Tribute
As you probably know, soul legend Isaac Hayes passed away August 10. Hayes transcended music as he made a mark on both film and television as well. Like many of his contemporaries, Hayes’ music found a home in hip hop through sampling. As a tribute to his legacy, I am presenting some of my favorite hip hop songs based off Isaac Hayes samples…
Public Enemy’s “Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos” samples Isaac Hayes “Hyperbolicsyllabicsesquedalymistic”
DJ Quik’s “Born and Raised in Compton” samples Isaac Hayes’ “Hyperbolicsyllabicsesquedalymistic”
Compton’s Most Wanted “Hood Took Me Under” samples Isaac Hayes “Walk On By”
Geto Boys “Mind Playin Tricks” samples Isaac Hayes “Hung Up On My Baby”
R.I.P. Isaac Hayes
