It comes to a matter of taste. If you are a fan of talented musicians and lyrical as well as musical ability and innovativeness than you choose the Beatles. If however you are someone who likes the dancing side of music and listens to it strictly to be entertained, the it's MJ. I don't think it's even an argument as to who had more influence, or who was more popular. The Beatles literally had people thinking they were gods on Earth, the famous clip in Imagine where the guy was in Lennon's garden and John actually came out and tried to convince him that he was a normal guy and not some higher being becuase the stuff they were saying and the sounds they were making would challenge producers today and no one has yet to touch the lyrics that Lennon and McCartney. If you want to talk of individual Beatles vs. MJ I'd say he is better the McCartney, but as for Lennon I still think he is more influential. However, once again it's dealing with the technical side of music or the entertainment. John Lennon could dance. but it was funny, not like MJ, however no way MJ could ever come up with something as meaningful as Imagine or Mind Games of Instant Karma. McCartney with the Beatles has better lyrical ability as well but when he got into Wings he turned into a pop musician and kind of renounced his former counter-culture self. That is my opinion.<div class="comment-remix-meta"><a href="#" class="replyto" onclick="replyto('5201','ryan'); return false;">Reply</a> - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('5201','ryan','It comes to a matter of taste.
In case people consider Michael Jackson as inferior to the beatles in terms of songs written by them please listen to the following-
For all time
Smile
Cry
Speechless
Human Nature
Earth song
Little Susie
You are not alone
JAM
Apart from this mj was WAY better at vocals and dance.
The beatles beat him on only one score- music
MJ was a singer not a musician.
As for popularity can you go to Kenya and find people mourning Lennon? How many people faint during the beatles stage shows?
MJ is the king of music beyond all possible doubt<div class="comment-remix-meta"><a href="#" class="replyto" onclick="replyto('4921','Shouvanik'); return false;">Reply</a> - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('4921','Shouvanik','In case people consider Michael Jackson as inferior to the beatles in terms of songs written by them please listen to the following-\r\nFor all time\r\nSmile\r\nCry\r\nSpeechless\r\nHuman Nature\r\nEarth song\r\nLittle Susie\r\nYou are not alone\r\nJAM\r\nApart from this mj was WAY better at vocals and dance.\r\nThe beatles beat him on only one score- music\r\nMJ was a singer not a musician.\r\nAs for popularity can you go to Kenya and find people mourning Lennon?
It's totally Michael Jackson. His music suites the olden days and these days. He's a lengend! No matter how rumors make him indvinceble for years, he still remains on his throne, forever. I would really be very shocked if anyone would be better then him, which won't happen in a million years. No matter what, he's still original, and a legend. No need to compete after all.

The Beatles were the first major band to write all their own music. John Lennon and Paul McCartney were an unstoppable writing team. Lennon and McCartney understood music better than most people, and they also wrote it better than most people. Most artists prior to the Beatles did not compose their own songs, and therefore the songs never had the perfect flow that the Beatles had. The beginning of the Beatles’ compositions saw a career end for many paid composers who had little playing talent. Their lyrics spoke to the people, while moving with the flow of the music

The Beatles were also the first group to write using the idea of a conceptual album. A conceptual album is an album where all of the songs follow a theme and have a deliberate sequence that should give the listener a specifically desired experience from listening to the album.

Huge artist such as Elton John, Pink Floyd, The Who, Billy Joel, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Queen, R.E.M., The Bee Gees, Rick Springfield, Phish, Nirvana, and Michael Jackson among others, have all stated that the Beatles were a big influence on them.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame said that; “For such feats of sales and airplay alone, the Beatles can undeniably be regarded as the top group in rock and roll history. Yet, their significance as a band extends beyond numbers….” All of these statistics do not even begin to explain who the Beatles were, and how they changed the world of music.

Over 80 well known artists have made reference to the Beatles in one or more of their songs. Also, over 76 well known movies; and 82 popular television shows make reference to the Beatles.

Artists consistently reference the Beatles for album artwork. There are over fifty album covers that make an obvious reference to the Beatles.

The Beatles have influenced tons of movies, music, TV shows, plays, and books. The Beatles altered the way other musicians write music. Had it not been for the Beatles, writers might still be writing in a late 1950’s style, and paying other people to write their music.

The impact that the Beatles had on modern music cannot be underestimated. In fact, without the Beatles, modern culture would not exist as it currently does. The Beatles transformed pop-culture and morphed American’s ideas about music.

MJ is more superior

1,MJ is more popular than beatles(people in remote places don't know even one song of beatles)
2,MJ is a performer, singer, song writer, producer, choreographer and actor and a pop star "King of the pop"
3,MJ created new types of dance style
4,His style presence was so awesome
5,He made new types of music...beatles music was like that of normal..MJ's musics are full of emotions, special effects like hipcups..that's what I said new era of music
6,Many of the pop stars said they were highly influenced by MJ..even teen pop stars like Ashley tisdale and Miley cyrus...
7,Even a child who don't know him would ask his father "who is that man",he is so cool
8,He got more star power than anyone in the world..

You can’t say the Beatles or Michael Jackson were better than say Chuck Berry or Muddy Waters or Buddy Holly but you can’t deny the Beatles created music that eventually had nothing to do with them. The Beatles are number one because of these main reasons in my opinion.

1- They were great songwriters who wrote and performed some of the greatest albums in a short condensed time. Compare this to Michael Jackson who recorded three albums in eight years to the Beatles 13 albums in seven years. Before the Beatles the single was more important than the album, The Beatles popularity and ability to write full albums of songs that people would buy helped make the album sell more than the 45 by 1968.

2- They helped though not the only ones for example Brian Wilson expand the parameters both pop and rock music by incorporating recording technology directly into their songwriting. “Tomorrow Never Knows”, “Rain” and “I’m Only Sleeping”.

3- Much of their music is very textured, melodic with quirky chord progressions fused with sounds, instruments, and recording techniques outside of the restriction of popular music forms. “Strawberry Fields Forever” is a prime example. This kind of sound and style are not related to blues music or rock and roll. Basically while they had influences they created a new sound or style to records music that influenced virtually all of pop and rock music.

4- Despite being recording artists for barely over seven years the Beatles songs have been covered more than any other songwriter/musicians.

5- Many things like Automatic Double Tracking, Feedback, Backward guitars, vocals, loops, sampling, phasing on vocals, vocals through amps and others were either invented by the Beatles or popularized by the Beatles. Also the Beatles would use different recordings of the same song and match them as one song “Strawberry Fields Forever” or use unused parts from different recodings or songs and add them to new songs like “Her Majesty”, “Cry Baby Cry”, and “Revolution #9. Now common practice in pop music.

It has been over 40 years since The Beatles released their final studio album “Abbey Road.” Hailed by critics of the era and after as one of the best, it became apparent to listeners young and old that The Beatles would forever hold a place in history. Some forget, however, that this place for The Beatles had been secured already since their first single was released in 1963.

When The Beatles came out, they filled a void. While rock ‘n’ roll had been buzzing for some time, The Beatles had a sound that was fresh, something other bands hadn’t quite been able to grasp. Heavily influenced by Buddy Holly and Elvis, The Beatles put their own spin on the sounds and ushered in the British Invasion and caused the epidemic known as Beatlemania. Granted, The Beatles had amazing marketing, but what about when the pop fuzz wore off? The Beatles simply got better.

Thus began the second half of their career, some say beginning with the seemingly drug-induced “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.” While some bands do evolve and grow over time, few do as big of an overhaul on their image and sound as The Beatles did. Here we see the four distinct voices, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, coming together to produce something great.

Shedding their poppy, innocent image, The Beatles found themselves in a generation fueled by the counterculture, fed up with “the man,” and finished with the innocence of the early ‘60s. The Beatles reflected that in their music. Few bands evolve with a generation: many just took the counterculture and ran with it at the peak of the psychedelic music genre. The Beatles kept their music rich, deep, and poignantly simple. By doing this they continued to define their generation, becoming a landmark for the ‘60s music scene.

However, when a band becomes as big as The Beatles have, many begin to argue that they are overrated and undeserving of their place in history as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, bands of all time. People often hate the popularity of The Beatles. After all, why like something that everyone else seems to like?

The problem with this is that people often forget the ongoing relevance of The Beatles. The film “Across the Universe” came out in 2007, using The Beatles’ music as covered by the cast. Cirque de Soleil also made use of The Beatles’ tracks remixed and revisited. Both were popular and fantastic examples of The Beatles’ prevailed standing in the music scene. Bands continue to cover them and site their works as a major influence, drawing on albums such as “The White Album” and “Abbey Road” for inspiration. Teenagers whose parents had never picked up a Beatles album are discovering the songs and adding to an already substantial fan-base. The Beatles continue to define and shape generation after generation, music scene after music scene.

Some also see The Beatles as latching onto the scene that preceded them. This falls flat, because The Beatles, as previously stated, began an entire new musical revolution, the British Invasion. By adding a British spin, The Beatles helped change American rock ‘n’ roll forever. So when it comes to comparing bands that hit it big after The Beatles, it invalidates history. The Beatles had a niche in music history and did things that were unprecedented. They reached a broader audience that was rarely narrowed by a specific genre or demographic, becoming universal in countries around the world. Even when they first came out, The Beatles were recording in various languages and countries. Whose to say that should The Beatles’ have not existed or had been as big as they came to be, that music would be the same. Yet people continue to doubt.

My question for the doubters is “Have you listened to them?” No, not that simple. Have you really truly listened to them, weighed their growth as songwriters, viewed their evolution from album to album, seen the way they affected not just their generation but the generations after that? Doing this isn’t just required for The Beatles, but all bands. The Beatles showed us that listening to music isn’t as basic as plugging in our iPods or flipping on a turntable. We have to become the music and immerse ourselves in what it really means. A band that can do that: make us think as much, make us feel as much, as The Beatles have done, is truly worthy of any title, including being the best.
