I’ve been hearing a lot of good new music lately and this is a great example. Chamillionaire and Z-Ro (of course) kill their performances. I wish I knew who did the beat because it’s funky as hell. I’ve also included Cham’s other new track “Gucci & Fendi, which finds him killing the punchlines. I’m only posting these videos because I always wondered what happened to this guy. R & B singer Houston (Summers) had a hit singe, “I Like That” a few years back. Unfortunately, he later gouged his left eye out in an apparent suicide attempt. He pretty much disappeared after that. Based on these video, he still seems a bit unstable.Mental health in the Black community is part of my research. I really hope he’s getting the help he needs.

Bushwick Bill “Ever So Clear.” From his 1992 album Little Big Man. One of the illest narratives in hip hop history. The track presents Bushwick’s state of mind leading up to the1991 suicide attempt that left him without an eye. His description of the actually shooting is particularly chilling. This nihilistic song, however, has a hopeful and redemptive ending. Great music.

Houston, Texas rappers Mike Jones and Trae the Truth were involved in an altercation backstage today (August 11) at the Ozone Awards in Houston.

According to witnesses, the two rappers were having a conversation when Trae the Truth allegedly struck Jones for unknown reasons.

The altercation occurred in the backstage area, as artists like Slim Thug, David Banner, Alfamega and other industry types congregated in a press area.

The assault left Jones with a laceration to his face, but it is unknown if Jones required medical attention.

The reason for the altercation between the two Houston rappers occurred for unknown reasons, although sources told AllHipHop.com tensions between the two had already been high.

The Ozone Awards are taking place at the George R. Brown Convention Center

So apparently Trae was upset at Mike Jones calling himself the “President of the City” while not giving much back to the city. Trae approaches him at the Ozone Awards and Mike makes a smart remark or two. Naturally, Trae handles this by giving Mike Jones a couple of shots to the face. I want to believe that there is more to this story, but it looks like there is none. Trae is one of my favorite artists, but this is truly a shame. The Ozone Awards and the eyes of the hip hop nation came to Houston, and this is how we react. I truly believe Trae is a good dude who does a lot for the community, but this is not something to be proud of. If you promote yourself as a leader, as he does, you cannot become involved in this type of activity. Trae, what kind of message are you sending the kids of Houston?

Paul Wall

Last week, Houston rapper Paul Wall was rumored to have been killed in a gun fight in Houston. Recently, the rapper told SOHH.com that he was fine, but his friend, Emmanuel Hobbs, was killed. According to the Houston Chronicle, Hobbs was shot dead and others injured after a gunfight broke out in Southwest Houston on July 31st. Hobbs body was found in a driveway at 11:15am. Sad story. The streets of Southwest Houston have become very hot over the last few years and has claimed another victim. God bless Emmanuel Hobbs and his loved ones.

UGK’s Bun B and Shaquille O’Neal recently held a charity event where they supplied 400 Houston area families with 20,000 pounds of food. Families were also given barbecue lunches and got to kick it with the celebrities. You rarely hear positive stories about rappers (nba players as well) and this is definitely one of them.
