Old School Joints: Mystikal Collection

Mystikal is a legend. He never got the respect he deserved mostly because of where he was from (New Orleans, LA), but also because he blew up off of stripper anthems. But I’m not talking about that Mystikal. I’m talking about the fiery, rage-filled, dookie braid wearin’ cat that dropped the classic Mind of Mystikal (1995) and Unpredictable (1997) on Big Boy and No Limit Records respectively. Unlike the rest of the country, I didn’t check out Mystikal’s post-No Limit work (ex. “Shake It Fast,” “Danger”), but in the mid to late 1990s, Mystikal was a monster. He’s been locked up since 2004 on sexual assault (terrible) and tax-evasion charges. He’s due to be reased this year. I’ve put together a collection of various Mystikal videos and songs for your enjoyment.

“Here I Go” (Jive/BMG, 1995)

“Y’all Ain’t Ready Yet” (Big Boy/Jive, 1995)

“Beware” (Jive/BMG, 1995)

“Ain’t No Limit” (No Limit/Jive, 1997)

“Murder 2″ (No Limit/Jive, 1997)

“The Man Right Chea” (No Limit/Jive, 1997)

Old School Joint of the Week: TRU “I’m Bout It”

A little preview of next week’s No Limit Records special…

The Real Untouchable’s “I’m Bout It” video is, in my humble opinion, one of the hardest music videos ever made. Master P filmed this one right in his own hood. The beat is crippling. It will cripple you. And Mia X absolutely murdered it! This song and video is a good representative of the grittiness that defined the mid-90s era of hip hop.
